Criminal Defense Lawyers in Scarborough
For years, people charged in Scarborough went to court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East. That courthouse’s criminal matters have now moved to the Toronto Courthouse at 10 Armoury Street downtown, which can mean a long trip across the city for every appearance. For people with jobs, children or health issues, that is a real burden.
Provident Law LLP handles as much of your case as possible without you needing to be there. Our partners appear by video or on your behalf for routine dates, and we plan carefully for the days you must attend in person.

Designation of Counsel
A designation of counsel is a document filed with the court that lets your lawyer appear on your behalf. Once it is filed, most routine appearances, such as adjournments to review disclosure or to set a date, can happen without you. This is the single biggest step in saving you time and travel. You still attend when the court requires it, such as for a trial, plea or sentencing.
Appearing by Zoom
Many Toronto courtrooms allow appearances by video for early stages of a case. If you need to be present but the court permits remote attendance, you can usually join from home or work with a phone or computer. We send you the link, explain what to expect and make sure you are in a quiet, private place when your case is called. Our virtual court guide explains the basics.
Planning In-Person Trial Days
When you must attend downtown, preparation reduces stress. We confirm the courtroom in advance, tell you how long to expect to be there and meet with you before court starts. Trials are scheduled weeks or months ahead, so you can arrange time off work and child care. If a date truly conflicts with a medical or family need, tell us early so we can raise it with the court.

What clients say
I just recently attended court today in Brampton and my lawyer was Arman Gill. My charges of breach of long-term supervision have been successfully withdrawn from the courts today. In regards, I am leaving a review and letting your firm know that your services were awesome and I am so happy that I don't have to face any jail time. Once again, your services at your law firm were awesome.
I had serious charges against me and, as an international student, dealing with legal issues is not easy, but Arman Gill always had my back and helped me by going above and beyond. Not only on weekdays, he always answered my calls even on weekends and after office hours. I never saw a lawyer with this much dedication to helping their clients. He got all my charges withdrawn at pre-trial with a peace bond. He always talked about my future and what I wanted as a result, and fought as hard as possible to get the best outcome for me.
I worked with Mr. Arman Gill, who helped my son obtain an absolute discharge, and I couldn't be more grateful. From our first meeting, he was knowledgeable and incredibly thorough. He explained every step of the process clearly and made us feel supported throughout. Thanks to his expertise, my son received the discharge and can now move forward with his life. Highly recommend to anyone facing similar challenges.
It was an honorable pleasure working with Armandeep Gill. He was very professional and communicative in helping my son beat his criminal charges. I would highly recommend him for his services.

Scarborough Criminal Lawyer FAQs
-
Missing a required court date can lead to a warrant for your arrest and a separate criminal charge for failing to attend court. If you realize you have missed a date, call a lawyer immediately. In many cases we can explain the situation to the court, have the warrant addressed and get the case back on track before it causes further harm.
-
Often yes, for appearances the court allows by video. You need a stable connection, a private space and your phone fully charged. Join a few minutes early, keep your camera on if asked and mute yourself until your case is called. For trials and some pleas, in-person attendance is usually required. We will tell you the format for each date.
-
The court sets trial dates based on the availability of the judge, Crown, defence and witnesses, so there is limited flexibility. Still, we try to propose dates that work for you and avoid known conflicts. Because trials are set well in advance, most people can arrange time off. Tell us about any fixed commitments at the start of your case.

No. Disclosure in Toronto is generally provided electronically to your lawyer, so you do not need to travel to collect it. Once we receive it, we review it and go through it with you by video or in person at our office. If you do not have a lawyer yet, ask the Crown or duty counsel how to obtain it, and do not wait until the day of trial.
-
Yes. You can change lawyers at any stage. Your new lawyer files the necessary paperwork, obtains the file and disclosure from your previous counsel and appears on the next date. Changing lawyers close to a trial date can cause delays that may count against you, so if you are unhappy with your current representation, it is better to decide early.
