Criminal Defense Lawyers in Milton
Milton has become one of Ontario’s busiest logistics hubs, with distribution centres along Highway 401 and James Snow Parkway and thousands of transport trucks moving through every day. For professional drivers, a criminal charge after a collision or roadside stop threatens more than a record. It can end a career that depends on a clean licence.
Provident Law LLP defends drivers and residents whose cases are heard at the Milton courthouse. We understand what is at stake for people who drive for a living and build every defence around protecting the licence.

Collisions Involving Commercial Vehicles
When a transport truck is involved in a serious collision on Highway 401, police investigations are detailed. They may include reconstruction, engine control module data, electronic logging device records and dash-camera footage. That evidence can help or hurt you. We retain independent experts to examine the data, check hours-of-service records and road conditions, and challenge conclusions about speed, braking and fault that go further than the evidence supports.
Failure to Stop After an Accident
It is a criminal offence to fail to stop at the scene of a collision involving another person, vehicle or animal in your care, with the intent to escape liability. In a large truck, a driver may not feel a minor impact with a smaller vehicle. The Crown must prove you knew there had been a collision and left to avoid responsibility. Video, the size of the vehicles and the nature of the damage are central to whether you knew.
Keeping Your Licence While the Case Is Pending
Release conditions in driving cases sometimes include a ban on driving, which can mean immediate loss of income. Ontario also imposes administrative suspensions in impaired cases, and stricter alcohol and drug rules apply to drivers of many commercial vehicles. We ask the Crown for conditions that let you keep working where it is safe, explain how each outcome affects your licence and employer, and aim for results that keep you on the road.

What clients say
I just recently attended court today in Brampton and my lawyer was Arman Gill. My charges of breach of long-term supervision have been successfully withdrawn from the courts today. In regards, I am leaving a review and letting your firm know that your services were awesome and I am so happy that I don't have to face any jail time. Once again, your services at your law firm were awesome.
I had serious charges against me and, as an international student, dealing with legal issues is not easy, but Arman Gill always had my back and helped me by going above and beyond. Not only on weekdays, he always answered my calls even on weekends and after office hours. I never saw a lawyer with this much dedication to helping their clients. He got all my charges withdrawn at pre-trial with a peace bond. He always talked about my future and what I wanted as a result, and fought as hard as possible to get the best outcome for me.
I worked with Mr. Arman Gill, who helped my son obtain an absolute discharge, and I couldn't be more grateful. From our first meeting, he was knowledgeable and incredibly thorough. He explained every step of the process clearly and made us feel supported throughout. Thanks to his expertise, my son received the discharge and can now move forward with his life. Highly recommend to anyone facing similar challenges.
It was an honorable pleasure working with Armandeep Gill. He was very professional and communicative in helping my son beat his criminal charges. I would highly recommend him for his services.

Milton Criminal Lawyer FAQs
-
It depends on the charge and your release conditions. In impaired cases, Ontario's roadside suspension applies immediately, regardless of the criminal case. In other driving cases, your conditions may or may not restrict driving. If they do, we can ask the Crown to agree to a variation or apply to the court. Tell us right away if driving is your job.
-
Not always, but it can make it much harder. Many carriers and insurers will not hire drivers with recent driving-related convictions, and a conviction may come with a driving prohibition. Some convictions also affect cross-border work. That is why avoiding a conviction, or resolving the case to a less serious charge, is often the most important goal for professional drivers.
-
The Crown must prove you knew, or were wilfully blind to the fact, that you were involved in a collision, and that you left to escape liability. If the contact was minor and you genuinely did not notice it, that can be a defence. Evidence such as the size of your vehicle, noise and visibility can support it. We gather this evidence early, before it is lost.
-
Carriers often check driver abstracts and may ask about criminal charges, and insurers can learn of convictions through your driving record. Some employment contracts also require you to report charges. Before you tell anyone, get advice on what you must disclose and when, because statements to an employer or insurer are not privileged and could be used in the criminal case.
-
It can do either. Dash-camera footage from your truck, other vehicles or police cruisers often shows exactly what happened before a collision or stop. It can confirm your account, show road conditions or reveal another driver's mistake. It can also hurt if it contradicts what you said. Preserve your footage right away and give it to your lawyer, not to police or your employer.
